The Truck Worth Waiting For

I Can’t Believe SEMA Is Here Already. This has been the statement used by pretty much the entire crew for the past few weeks. It’s amazing to look back to March 2018 when we first started discussing the v8 truck concept, to this past February when we started taking apart the first chassis. It has been a transformation in not just the vehicle, but how great our crew has worked together to make miracles happen. For 11 years EarthCruiser has seen over 177 vehicles fulfill dreams of exploration from the Steps of Mongolia, to the Steens Mountain in Oregon. This

The End of an Era – EarthCruiser Omega

The last diesel EarthCruiser in North America – introducing EarthCruiser Omega. Since our founding in 2008, diesel powered EarthCruiser trucks have been the chosen carriage for transporting owners to the most remote areas around the globe. These fantastic trucks have allowed their owners to see and experience it all, from pristine South French wineries, to the rugged terrain of Tajikistan. However, as we described in a July post, times are changing. Our heritage has not been built on a certain type of fuel, but on providing a proven platform for people to travel without limitations. In the United States we’ve

Testing Out the New Garmin Overlander GPS Tablet

This spring Garmin released a new gps tablet aimed at the Overlander market at Overland Expo West in Flagstaff, AZ. Although the first release to the public isn’t planned until August 8th, they sent a few out for people to test. We were lucky enough to be among the few who got this chance, although we only received it on July 19th. Having limited opportunities to test the unit, I decided to use it during a trip to the Rocky Mountain Overland Rally in Gunnison, CO. Traveling primarily on paved highway, and only camping remotely one night, I cannot say

The New Normal for Overlanding in America

Most travelers all over the world are starting to realize just how attractive North America is for overland travel. These days the quiet Overland Expo feels more like SEMA, and there are more Back-Country Discovery Routes than interstates (slight exaggeration). A few years ago the iOverlander app boasted more Walmart parking lots than real camping locations. Now there are so many spots I think someone has even tagged a pull-off in my backyard. So what does this all mean? Well, to us, it means that this much attention is making it impossible for people to understand what is the right

Traveling the Mojave Road in the EXD

Most Americans have heard of the Mojave desert. A barren wasteland in Southern California full of rocks and reptiles that should be avoided by all travelers. If this is what you envision, than your really need to read this post to see what you are missing. In late January I had 3 days to trek from Arizona to Southern California in the EXD for the start of the Baja XL Rally. I was burnt out from 9 continuous days standing on pavement at the Barrett-Jackson Auction, and in desperate need for some  therapy in nature. Looking for as direct of

Escape from Sheep Canyon

Being prepared, equipped, and open to all possible outcomes is the only way to enjoy the freedom and peace you have once you are there.  – Gary W. We love sharing stories from the trail, especially when it is from one of our owners. Mostly they are stories about new places traveled, unique wildlife scene, and beautiful pictures captured. We can live vicariously through these stories, and know what we build is giving someone joy. Recently we received a story that wasn’t all rainbows and cupcakes. It was about a serious scenario that could have ended very badly. Luckily these

Just How Similar is an EarthCruiser to a Tacoma

Prepare to be Impressed! When you think of a purpose built expedition truck that offers 14 feet of interior living space, you probably wouldn’t use the word “nimble” to describe it. I mean 14 feet, almost 100 sq. ft., is a lot of space in a vehicle. An average Sprinter van conversion only gives you 83 sq. ft. of space, and in an EarthCruiser you have a good size indoor shower, dinette table for 4, full kitchen, and queen size bed you don’t have to crawl up into. So how can we call this a purpose built off-road truck? It

The New 2020 EarthCruiser EXP and FX

Our flagship expedition trucks are in for one major overhaul This year we are releasing an entirely new, more capable, reliable and purpose built EXP and FX expedition vehicles. The most notable change is that they will be powered by an ever reliable, fuel efficient v8 gasoline engine. Everyone here is excited to see the transition to a gasoline fueled powerplant from our preferred chassis manufacturer, Fuso. This platform will, at last, give us the flexibility needed to adjust drivetrain parameters, and create a platform that can be standardized across multiple truck lines (including dual cab models). Our new platform

Baja XL Rally 2019

Baja XL: Days 8-10

All Good Things Must Come to an End. The rally is over, and we’re back in the wet, winter weather of Oregon. It’s not all sad though as I was happy to have a strong internet connection, and there is the great comfort of wearing clean clothes, doing laundry in a machine, and taking multiple hot showers just because you want to. However the memories made during the Baja XL rally will always travel with us, no matter where we are.  As I kiss my wife and pet my dog, it does feel good to be home. Day 8: Today
